"Meet My Friend"...Whitney Beard from Divine Twine {and a GIVEAWAY}

I know it isn't Monday. However, when Whitney offered for me to piggy back on her giveaway, I didn't think you would mind...especially when free printables are available for your crafting projects!

I placed my first order with her last year and I was shocked at how many e-mails I received wanting to know where I bought the "pretty twine". I love Whitney's style and it is do-able for any of us.

Another great product she is offering {for those of us who like a bargain!} is DIVINE {K}NOTS...less than perfect twine at a 33% savings. The shabby look is in and I think it adds character.

Whisker Graphics is the creative out-pouring of Whitney Beard. Founded in June of 2008, Whisker Graphics was a long time in the making. Whitney's love of design and paper goods started when, as a child, she would save her allowance to buy sales receipt booklets and bookkeeping journals (oh, those grids made her little heart skip a beat!) and progressed over the years to include a degree in Graphic Design and the appreciation of all things paper and crafty.

In 2009 Whitney created Divine Twine®, bakers twine in yummy colors, and introduced it to the market.

Whitney lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband, two children and their schnoodle, Lola.

Please welcome Whitney and be sure to visit her blog for her giveaway...and don't forget to peruse her inspiring blog!

I know I sound like a broken record, but seriously, where does the time go!?? How can it already be time to celebrate the Fourth of July? Well apparently it is, so I've put together a free Printable for you to use in your decorating. There are 12 scallop circles to the 8.5 x 11" page and they can be used in lots of ways. Create a garland, make cupcake toppers, decorate some gift bags, attach to a party invite or punch two holes in them and slip a straw through. Below are some photos to get your creative juices flowing. If you have time, please leave a comment and let me know how you'll be using them. It's nice to hear what happens to these free Printables when they go out into the world.

Picnic in a Basket

Posted by Picasa

Since the sun has not been shining much at all lately, putting a picnic together sounded like a lot of fun even though we weren't going anywhere. {I just put the picnic together for the picture and am really excited about this summer's picnics!}

We had lunch with dear friends today{even though we haven't had much time together...our hearts are connected!} We LOVE having company over and every time our guests leave, I want to do it again.

It is not about your house, freshly vacuumed carpets, dusted shelves, and a well-manicured lawn. It IS about getting together and encouraging one another. Listening with your heart and not being distracted by your list of "to do's". It is your chance as a hostess to welcome your friends into your home to feel pampered, loved and cared for.

There is a time for inviting friends over for a spur-of-the moment dinner, but there is also a time to have them over for a well-planned, but not overly extravagant meal where the focus isn't the surroundings but the fellowship.

Here is a simple picnic for the park or your dining room table!

Menu:
Lavash Wraps
Fruit Salad{Fresh pineapple slices and sliced strawberries}
Kettle Chips {Our Favorite}
A fun drink...today we had Limonata and Sparkling Pomegranate Juice
Leftover ice cream with cones

Everything was made ahead and we thoroughly enjoyed our time together.

So, if you have been thinking about having someone over and you find yourself being too busy, call them, text them, facebook them or whatever other means of communication you might use. Set a date and stick to it. Keep it simple... sandwiches will do just fine and cute napkins always make any meal extra special!

It will be time well spent and I am sure you will want to do it again...sooner than later!

Lavash wraps
Softened cream cheese
Shredded carrots
Avocado
Red leaf romaine, torn
Garlic deli turkey , all natural
Sharp Tillamook Cheese, shredded

Directions: Spread a thin layer of cream cheese on Lavash bread. Be sure to cover all the nooks and crannies. Layer veggies, then the turkey. End with cheese. Roll tightly. Wrap with a piece of waxed paper. Cut in half. Tie a ribbon around the middle.

For a picnic: These can be made in advance. Place prepared wraps in Large gallon size Ziploc. Keep chilled until ready to serve.

Just MAKE SURE the carrots and lettuce have been dried with a paper towel so you don’t end up with soggy wraps and end up ordering SUBWAY for your picnic. {ASK me how I figured that out!}

The Yellow bakers twine was ordered from Whitney @ DIVINE TWINE. You will have to visit her site.

Senior Mom's Luncheon {part two}

Posted by Picasa

About five years ago we switched schools for both of our children. Our daughter had been with most of her friends since kindergarden and a few of them attended the same preschool. After picking her up from school on the last day of her seventh grade year...she just did not look like "my girl". Her eyes had lost their sparkle and the inner joy that used to just radiate from within was gone. I am sure it had been coming on for a long time, but I think God just let me have a glimpse that day of what was going on. I called my hubby immediately and I knew we had to do something drastic and he had the EXACT same feeling. To make a very long story short, we cut off all ties and let then have a "fresh start".

At the end of the following school year, I was talking to my hubby and my heart was so full of gratitude that the Lord had provided our daughter with such Godly friends who took her in and accepted her and blessed our our whole family with their friendships. Not only had her friends become a part of our family, but the parents had extended so much care and love toward our daughter. So, with a grateful heart for our new friends I decided to plan a mom's luncheon with all of the moms and the daughters from her class.

So fast forward four years...we have all been planning graduation details via phone, email, meetings etc. and I thought I would plan a luncheon for the Mommas and have one last time all together before it gets CRAZY!

The invites were sent out in March because I knew calendars were already filling up. So, that was nice to get them delivered early.

The decorations will be used for four more events {mother's day luncheon, a baby shower, a graduation party and borrowed by a friend for another luncheon}!

The menu was simple. Everything was made ahead of time, and my Momma and twinsie showed up an hour before to serve. They took care of the counters kept things tidy during the party and even snuck out to the deck to enjoy their lunch!

I was debating what I should do for party favors {I don't know why that is my favorite detail??} I kept going back and forth. I was going to make bird cookies, but I wanted something a bit more sentimental.

I remembered the letters I had received from my parents when I went off to college. They were so nice to look at. I would read them over and over again. I know I love to get notes and I KNOW my children love notes...because they save them! So, I decided to send home a little package home with each of the mom's to write a letter to their senior.

I cut sheets of cardstock into 4x6 cards. Put each card into a waxed cookie bag {CASH AND CARRY}, tied it with a piece of yellow DIVINE TWINE and made tags on yellow cardstock with "I LOVE YOU" printed on it. Simple, yet meaningful...no calories for the Mommas and a priceless gift to be given to their children.
