Chest of Drawers..."summertime buffet"

Last weekend I was on my way out to a tea party when out of the corner of my eye, I saw a chest of drawers on the side of the road. I quickly stopped {because we do.not.talk on the phone while driving!} and called my sweet hubby and asked him if he could drop everything he was doing and go get the scoop on the chest of drawers. He was on it! Ten bucks!

He asked me where I thought I might put it. I told him I would think about it and let him know when I got home.

As soon as I got home, we got into his car, which he had already cleaned out and went for a drive up the road to pick it up!

He asked me if I knew what WE were going to do with it! KNOWING there was no room in the house, I told him we could use it outside as a summertime buffet. He said, "for ten bucks, why wouldn't you?!"

After bringing it home in all of its "adorability", I hardly have the nerve to start sanding it down...and then putting it outside. EEEKKKK...now I think it should be kept in the house...not sure how I am going to gently tell my hubby???

I am leaning toward painting it a light blue or yellow, but will most likely end up painting it white...like everything else. Then there are the knobs...I think some cute little, delicate ones would be just perfect...but not sure either. Who knows? Maybe I should just leave it alone and save it for a grand-baby...down the road. Decisions.Decisions.Decisions. This is exactly what happens when you can't find the power tool when you are ready to start a project!

What are your ideas? What do you think I should do? I hope I am not opening a can of worms.

  1. Do you have room to redo it and put it in your foyer as a credenza?
My foyer is not wide enough.

  2. That would be such a great idea, but my entry isn't wide enough either...

  3. It looks like it would be a flexible piece of furniture. I can see it as a television stand, buffet, dresser (add a mirror) or a large bedside table. I would paint it white or black and I think some crystal knobs would look wonderful on it! Good luck! I look forward to seeing the results!

  4. Dining room - hold linens, candles, serving pieces...
Laundry room - hold clothes pins, sewing supplies, cleaning supplies...
    Kitchen - bake station
Patio or porch - planting station
Home Office - extra office supplies
    Bathroom - towels, toiletries
Guest room - travel size toiletries, guest towels and empty drawers
    Bedroom - beside stand
    Craft room - everything!
I would keep the cute square knobs but paint them the accent color - white seems the perfect color for it!

  5. such a great piece! I'm looking over all the other suggestions...all good ones! do you have a powder room that you could convert the dresser into a sink stand? It would be adorable! the top two drawers would have to just be fronts, but you could probably still use the bottom two for storage? TP, extra hand towels, etc....
Nice to meet another NW girl! ;) thanks for sharing this at Transformations and Treasures!
